AIM/Bay Mills 2012 Can-Am Invitational Walleye Tournament
AIM (Anglers Insight Marketing) advised that the field of competing anglers is full and the teams are set for the 2012 Can-Am Invitational tournament, hosted by Bay Mills Resort & Casino. Thirty one American Pro Walleye Anglers, led by Co-captains, Brett King and Mark Martin will fish against a team of 31 Canadian Pro Walleye Anglers, led by Co-captains John Butts and Joe Giuliana. AIM’s exclusive, Catch, Record and Release format will protect the fish and preserve the fishery for the artificial bait only tournament. The Pro Anglers from both America and Canada will be randomly paired with a Co-angler from either country.
Three unique features will be incorporated into the tournament. First, each of the 62 Pro Anglers will receive $300 from Bay Mills Resort & Casinos at registration before the tournament even begins. (Total payout – $18,600). Second, the Can-Am Pro Anglers will also be competing for Team Bonuses. Each Pro Angler will be competing as a member of an American or Canadian Team with each Pro’s C-R-R weight being added to their respective team’s weight. The Team with the highest total C-R-R weight will each receive a $250 bonus – that is another $7,750. Third, because of Bay Mills Resort & Casinos’ sponsorship, the complete cash prize and bonus payouts will make Bay Mills Can-Am Invitational the most lucrative walleye tournament in 2012. At this writing prize monies total $130,000.
The major change in tournament scheduling is that during the 2012 event, the last day of the tournament, the field will not be cut by one third as it was in 2011. The full roster will fish the final day, June 2nd.
Negotiations are still being worked out with Canada’s border protection people in hopes the American and Canadian Pro Anglers will be able to fish both Canadian and American waters. If an impasse is reached, the tournament will take place in American waters.
Bay Mills Resort & Casinos is located in Brimley, Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior. You can watch the anglers take off for a day’s fishing on either Lake Superior or travel down through the Soo Locks to the lower St. Marys River. The river is some 70 miles long and Pro anglers can fish as far down as the river mouth at DeTour, where it empties into Lake Huron. If you have never seen 60 high-tech fishing boats lock through together in the famous Poe Lock, (Sault Ste. Marie) well, it is worth the price of the trip to the tournament. And watching all the Pros come in single file to report in by 4:00 PM is a beautiful sight to see…next stop the tournament big tent to learn who got what and what did it weigh!
